crazychicknladyIf I ever tried to run our household on a schedule, I think much of the learning would come to a screeching halt (or at the least the fun of following a random curiosity kind anyway). Last night, about 2am, C asked me to make him a map with lots of water on it. I asked him if he would rather look at some real maps with lots of water on them instead, and pulled out my monster sized Rand McNally Map book (seriously, it's dimensions are 11 by 15 and 2 inches thick - there are some advantages to having worked at a bookstore that was going out of business many years ago).
Greenland became the main focus after C found a teeny tiny map of it near the beginning of the book (supplemented by Googling for pictures to show S that there really is still green in Greenland even if you do have to look for it right along the coast).
Then S noticed the picture in the Atlas of the banaue rice terraces in the Philippines, and there started the mad search of Google images to find one that would help determine scale (this looked like me going "ooh" and C yelling "let me see!" and everyone crowing around the computer). S thought they looked like you could climb up them like steps till I found her this one. After which we decided that if you weren't the one having to pick the rice it would be fun to climb on them, but not so easy to get up and down if you were carrying this (he has a bunch of rice seedlings).
H and S then looked at landscapes, then moved on to pictures of dragonflies - figuring out how to use Google's new format involving color choices before I ever had a chance to point it out to them.
