When I was a kid, I could tune into exactly one Country radio station on my radio alarm clock.

On my car's radio I have programmed in six different Country radio stations. That we have that many local stations blows me away anytime I actually pause to think about it.

Add in the ability to stream stations from other states through iheart, and I will never run out of listening opportunities.

We don't even need to add YouTube into the discussion, though I probably should.

I am, of course, most grateful for my family. Marrying my husband is still the best decision I ever made; he is my best friend, and one of my main anchors in this crazy world as it spirals more and more out of control. Because of him I can live my dream job - being a Mom. I am continually impressed with the grown people my kids are becoming and I am beyond blessed for the good relationship I still have with each of them.

And no, I am not being Polyanna, quite the opposite; there is way too much to be concerned about in the world today, so I figure I should take the time to focus on some intentional gratitude, instead of losing my mind.

I want to push myself to focus on the other things in my life I appreciate, enjoy, am grateful for. So, going forward, my family is a given, and my focus will be elsewhere, unless a specific event inspires me on any given day.

So, now we will see how high a number I reach in my post titles.

These have not been in our house since we went scorched earth last October when my husband lost his job.

Little bit of positive, they were actually on sale.

I bought two.

ETA: In case Twitter stops being a thing someday, I thought I should mention this post is in reference to the big containers of cheesy poofs I bought on my last big shopping trip.

Fireworks.

I love our neighborhood.

Many of our neighbors shoot off the good fireworks every year. The snuck in from another state, or another country, not quite legal for this area, fireworks. This year more neighbors joined in and the shows ran longer into the night.

It was glorious.

C and I watched for so long, H finished her nightshift before C and I even had a chance to break into our own supply of grocery store fireworks we shoot off in our backyard.

Far less exciting, and far less illegal, but still good fun.

S even managed to join us right at the end for a few final big ones.

Since S and H both had to work, I didn't expect to get to celebrate with all three of my kids this year. It was a happy accident that it worked out so well after all.

I'm thankful for friends, my family, and purring kittens.

I love looking out my back door and seeing green. Having flood irrigation is amazing.

I've never been fond of any of the so called Hallmark holidays. However, the messages surrounding Mother's day are particularly insidious.

Show Mom how much you care, implies the flipside if you don't manage a big enough display on this particular day.

I love my kids. Mom is the best job in the whole world. I feel blessed every day having these three amazing people in my life.

I also know my kids love me.

Every night, even if he is staying up later than I am, C has me tuck him into bed. We sign to each other and he always signs how much, much, much he loves me, always and forever, no matter what, forever. Then he hugs me. I have to tuck the blankets around him, turn on the two fans, turn off the light, and shut the door, to complete the ritual.

H and I have been watching a Youtube series featuring a real Doctor reacting to Doctor shows. Today she excitedly informed me he had a new episode out; I settled down on the futon, with my head in her lap, to watch it with her. Later, wanting a chance to talk with me for a longer amount to time, she decided to go with me to Walmart so we could spend more time together.

S makes sure to hug me every night when I tell her I'm going to bed. She wants to make sure I get hugs from her to make up for the 3 months C stopped being able to hug me when he was 10. This morning she gleefully squeed with me over old livejounal entries about 3 year old C.

I don't need a special day to celebrate being a Mom. I get to Mom, every day, and my kids show me they care, every day.

ETA: The one time I can get behind Mother's and Father's day is with the first few after the first baby. Being a Mom or Dad is very new at that point and the transition into a new life role is exciting.

I am incredibly grateful for the day and age we live in. The technology that can bring together an independently produced song by one artist and combine it with the talents of a girl who does ASL song interpreting to land a wonderful video onto a feed on my phone mere hours after it is released.

Tired, tired, tired, tired, tired.

So I am grateful for:

quiet mornings.

already knowing what I'm making for dinner and having the food in the house.

having a light schedule for today.

leftovers.

having some free time to lay down and rest my back.

Hubby and I are with the kids to see Weird Al in his Ill-Advised Vanity Tour tonight.

Picture of overpriced merch, not likely to follow us home.

I am grateful we can do this sort of thing as a family. We bought these tickets ages ago, and sometimes it seems like a minor miracle that we all made it; H didn't have to work, and none of us are sick.

Emo Phillips was the intro Act.

Now it's time to hear Cheese Sandwich sing.

ETA: I forgot that concerts are always way too loud. I'm glad I went, but next time M can take the kids and I'll stay home. There was good, though. The comic was really funny. Near the end of the concert Weird Al did a great medley of his older stuff, then played The Saga Begins as his final encore, which was awesome. https://youtu.be/hEcjgJSqSRU

My ears still hurt, though.

ETA 2: This post seemed a little slim on the gratitude, so here's some more:

My kids had a good time, and they are old enough to remember this.

We ran into an old acquaintance who also went to the concert and we had a very pleasant exchange; I've decided we need to invite him to the next house filk.

My husband drove, so I can just relax on the way home.

We have a copy of UHF at home, and definitely have to watch it again soon. C would have been too young to remember it from the last time we had it on.

I don't know how many more of these I'll do. I've noticed something about myself over the years. I have a lot of enthusiasm at the beginning of a project, but that dies off after not too long. I suppose that's why I used to like making baby blankets. They are inherently a shorter length project.

I don't know if this tendency to lose interest after such a short time is a flaw built into my nature, or something brought about by my exposure to years, upon years, of classic schooling.

Maybe a little of both.

Still, I am grateful for the free time I can provide my kids for the pursuit of their passions and projects.

I am grateful for the persistence S has demonstrated by recording then publishing a video on YouTube evey week since August of 2016. This is the first video of her current series on Minecraft + https://youtu.be/jHyB7Jgtd1c

I am grateful that my kids are turning out to be loving people I am honored to know.

I am grateful my kids like each other.

It's hard to avoid comparisons, especially with social media shoving everyone's, best of, glamour reels into my awareness every time I log on. My son doesn't create in the concrete, easily pointed to way, but he is wildly creative, loves people, and likes to spend time on multiplayer games. I am grateful for him.

I really need to remember to start these entries earlier in the day.

Pools my son can swim in.

Being able to hold a 1 month old and jiggle him happy.

Youtube videos of birds to share with H.

A giant yard for my cat to claim as her own.

The fenced off smaller yard that gives the cat a dog free larger yard.

Fresh duck eggs.

Fresh chicken eggs.

The way the ducks talk to each other.

The way the chickens greet me in the morning demanding I open the duck house for them.

My hubby building a house to keep the ducks safe from the owls.

S, dear hubby, and I had a wonderful day today. I'll incorporate it into my gratitude list:

Free, open air, gun range, with shade and tables, less than an hour drive from home.

Getting to go shooting with some good friends, my hubby, and my daughter.

S.
S.
S.

My daughter repeatedly telling me, "this is fun, we should do this more often!", with a big grin on her face.

A surprisingly tasty late lunch at a fast food chicken joint I'd never eaten at before.

The reaction of the cashier when I tipped her. She had never been tipped before. I told her she was wonderful and she came out from behind the counter and hugged me. She deserved it: she was friendly, cheerful, helpful, remembered my name, brought out our food, and checked on us later. Mind you, at a fast food place.

Playing games with my kids.

My son's smile.

Thomas Sander's latest song on his YouTube channel: https://youtu.be/U1RHfeaKIgc

Paul Newman's balsamic vinaigrette.

Four different Country Radio stations to pick from programmed into my car radio.

I'm really tired today.

I'm grateful for:

A comfy bed.

A roof over my head.

A hot shower.

A hard working husband.

Kids who help each other out.

Sore muscles from yesterday, it's an oddly satisfying feeling.

Enough people showing up to our Gaming Day to make it still seem worth the effort.

A karate class my son enjoys.

Three cars for a family of three drivers, especially on days we need to be in three different places at once.

A nice overcast with a coolish breeze.

This entry is coming in just under the wire, since we had such a big day. We met for our last ASL group at a local icecream shop, I had to get a new string on S's violin, we got pizza for dinner, then we spent the next 7 hours playing at a Main Event*. So, for my list today:

Laser tag.

Gravity Ropes.

Pizza.

Icecream.

Getting to spend time doing fun things with my kids.

*It was a homeschooling teen event, but we didn't end up hanging out with any of them for more than a few minutes here and there. I did do my duty and introduce myself to some of the parents, but I had an all activities pass, like the kids, so I didn't stay long. The kids and I just hung out and played together. Hands down favorite was Laser Tag.

Heat pad.

Hot showers.

Coffee maker.

Megamind*

Guardians of the Galaxy*

*H showed me a YouTube channel with videos expounding on the wonderful bits of those two movies.

https://youtu.be/8g25pr9jrnQ

https://youtu.be/QvrDFolfBLs

These reminded me of how much I enjoyed them, and even better, gave me a chance to hang out and laugh with my amazing daughter.
