I've only been vaguely paying attention to the Greenland situation. Occasionally something funny happens, occasionally I hear something that makes me cringe. But today, thanks to this New York Post article, I learned that the Danish government are the bad guys in their story.

They have a history of experimenting on the the Greenland people.

"Native Greenlander Amarok Petersen was 27 years old when she learned the gut-wrenching truth about why she couldn’t have children — and that Denmark was to blame.

Suffering from severe uterine problems, a medical doctor discovered an IUD birth control device in her body that she didn’t know she had.

Danish doctors had implanted it when she was just 13 as part of a population control program for thousands of native Greenlandic girls and women.
"

This was not just a one-off. Because "the government of Denmark officially apologized last year for decades of forced sterilization of Indigenous women and girls.

Last year, last freaking year.

Fluffy Butt was dumped into our yard about 4.5 years ago. I thought it was longer than that, but I found the LiveJournal post that dates it for me.

Unfortunately, Fluffy Butt has been slowing down lately. A few months ago he stopped sleeping on the high roost in his house. I wasn't too worried about it at first, as he still found an elevated area to sleep on each night. That was, until a few days ago, when I caught the ducks beating him up.

I hoped it was an isolated incident, but last night, they started it up again. Time to move the ducks in with the other chickens at night, and give the old man some peace.

I had a few things to post about, that I hadn't quite gotten around to: goats bread, kittens, and such.

Then Charlie Kirk was assassinated.

Charlie Kirk was fucking assassinated.

He was 31, with a wife and 2 small children (1 year old son, 3 year old daughter).

This one hit harder than I expected. The human mind can't react to every tragedy, to every evil act, with the same intensity. We are wired for the life of a villager, not as a global citizen. We need a connection.

S used to go to one of his Anti-Socialist clubs when she first started going to the local community college. I remember navigating emails signed by him from the early days of TPU. I guess that was enough for my brain to consider a connection.

Charlie wasn't a politician, he was just a good guy who talked to kids on college campuses. Beyond the demonizing of him done by the mainstream media, the why to this was deafening.

Nick Freitas has the answer to the why.

Diesel encapsulates the rest with How Dare They.

Excuse me while I go cry some more while listening to that on loop.

Given the rain today, I'm starting to wish I had run my errands yesterday.

ETA: We got freaking hail.

With babies and sick/injured animals, your whole world narrows to keeping track of bodily funtions; did they eat, drink, pee, poop, sleep?

On that basis, Firball is doing fine. His lacerations appear improved from yesterday, thank goodness. His cone of shame (borrowed from H) may be largely responsible for this.

So, my daughter's friend's soon to be ex-landlord is moving out of state and can't take her horse with her.

After exhausting all other options, they asked if I could take her.

I had thought I'd be done with horses after Ezra aged out, but I couldn't stand the idea that this horse's only other option was being put down.

Thus, enters Maggie into our lives. Our best animals are the ones who find us, after all. She is a 24 year old quarter horse, who may just be more buddy sour than Ezra, which is an impressive feat.

Order of operations:

*I'd never heard of J.D. Vance when Trump named him his VP.

*Looked into J D. Vance, liked most of what I saw (a little too heavy handed with the Federal Government, but he's a Republican, not a Librarian).

*Watched his movie.

*Watched him trounce News Media.

*Started to fan girl for Vance

* Read this article about him in Reason.

* Discovered Vance is economically illiterate.

"You raise the minimum wage to $20 an hour, and you will sometimes hear libertarians say this is a bad thing. "Well, isn't McDonald's just going to replace some of the workers with kiosks?" That's a good thing, because then the workers who are still there are going to make higher wages; the kiosks will perform a useful function; and that's the kind of rising tide that actually lifts all boats. What is not good is you replace the McDonald's worker from Middletown, Ohio, who makes $17 an hour with an immigrant who makes $15 an hour." ~ J.D. Vance

Here's my response on Twitter.

Of course I'm still voting Trump/Vance, because the alternative is Communism, but how can anyone as seemingly bright as Vance, be that stupid on basic economics?!?!

For some unknown reason, we are overrun with pillbugs this season. As pests go, they rank fairly high in my book, just below crickets really. Much better than any variety of pincer bugs or, especially, what I call flat bugs to keep me from declaring my house invaded by cockroaches. I would still prefer to have a less vigorous population of pillbugs in my yard/house.

The ducklings enjoy outside time, as long as a human joins them, it's in the shade, and there is water.

Shade is easy to come by, since we have several varieties of citrus planted close to the house in our backyard. Water is provided by a hose nearby. Much to my delight, and to that of the ducklings, I discovered a new game the other day.

Put the hose on near the wall (conveniently watering one of our citrus in the process), and watch the pillbugs scatter trying to escape the water.

Food, water, and entertainment all in one.

Documented through Twitter, since I can't get photos to work any other way

And yes, they've gotten huge.

Thanks to the magic of Netflix, Hubby, Son, and I got to watch the movie Hacksaw Ridge, honoring some of the exploits of Medal of Honor recipient, Pfc Desmond Thomas Doss.

Pretty good movie, but as my son said, "they did him dirty". For movie timing they had to compact his heroics into two days, underselling his accomplishments (though, what they did include was insane). Also, the movie left out how, after being wounded, PFC Doss, sent the stretcher bearers after someone more severely wounded, and "Awaiting the litter bearers' return, he was again struck, this time suffering a compound fracture of one arm. With magnificent fortitude he bound a rifle stock to his shattered arm as a splint and then crawled 300 yards over rough terrain to the aid station."

For even more detail, check out the Medal of Honor Citation for Desmond Doss

Remember, all Medal of Honor Citations are public record.

Currants.

A few weeks ago hubby and I were looking at berry bushes at one of the giant box stores. While initially focusing on blackberries and raspberries, a throw away comment from the hubby immediately shifted my focus.

He mentioned how currants used to be illegal in the US, and still were in some states.

Illegal plants?

Of course this piqued my interest.

After some amount of googling, I leaned about the connection between the white pine and black currants. Europe chose the currant. The US chose the pine. The federal ban lasted from 1911 to 1966. The currant is indeed still illegal to various degrees in some states.

A red and a black currant now live in my yard.

A few days ago we noticed one is growing berries!

The value of Twitter is evidenced in the random gems I find while working my way down various threads. I present to you Woodchipper go BRRRR/In Minecraft.

Just recently, one of my news shows was joking about the use of "in Minecraft" as a way to skirt the censors when one might be too close to the edge of advocating violence. I was completely unfamiliar with the concept, but given the age of this video (also, the tweets, posted as the two songs this originally was, were from Sept 2020), this has been a thing for a while.

I had not heard of this song till the kerfuffle of CMT taking it down to cries of "racism!" and "glorifying lynching!".

Seriously, the mob is just mad that it is an honest depiction of the "firey, but mostly peaceful protests" of 2020.

If no one had thrown a fit, I, and likely many millions of others, wouldn't even know this video existed.

Try That in a Small Town.
