My six year old son's favorite Lego Star Wars character used to be Darth Vader. He didn't mind too much that Vader was a bad guy, mostly C just thought he looked cool. Vader had the mask and the cape and the red light saber going for him, though the last minute change of heart at the end of his life did help his rep a little.

Last night I bought some cereal with a prize inside. I actually bought four boxes of cereal with Star Wars pens inside. Getting the toy out of a cereal box is so much easier than when I was a kid. I remember trying to get that toy without spilling all the cereal, tipping the box just right, bending the box, reaching way down.....the cereal may not have fared too well in that situation. Now, probably due to fear of lawsuits if a kid accidentally ate the toy, they have the toy nicely wrapped up outside of the bag which contains the cereal. A very simple matter to open the cardboard top of the four boxes and snag the pens without having to actually open the bags and spoil the cereal.

This left us with four pens. Surprisingly they were four different pens. C informed me he did not want the bad guy pen (Darth Maul in this case). He went on to inform me he didn't want to play with bad guys anymore. Not even his beloved Darth Vader (though he wants me to show him the part at the end where Vader saves Luke Skywalker - he doesn't remember that part, and he wants to decide about Darth Vader once he sees it again).

I haven't had the heart to point out that his other favorite Lego Star Wars character, Boba Fett, is also a bad guy. Good thing we've been playing Lego Indiana Jones (which C still pronounces Indianian - sooo cute) and Lego Harry Potter more these days.
