If my kids get nothing else from trips to the zoo and theme parks, it will be rudimentary map reading skills. (And lets face it, they get lots of other benefits from going to these places.)
At the entrances, we always have to pick up enough maps for each child, and at least one for the adults in the group.
There ensues a very serious examination of the maps, with discussions about where we are, and where we want to end up. Even my three year old participates in the process.
