Thanks to [livejournal.com profile] catnip13 for this - "The gift of giving your child the time to explore their passions is a huge one."

Someone on the unschooling lists would have monthly panic attacks about unschooling (and yes, she did eventually come to realize these may have been hormonally induced). She would worry things weren't working and it took some reflection to realize it wasn't the unschooling causing the problem. She made herself a note that read, "It's not the unschooling, it's ______" and filled in the blank about whatever was really bothering her the most at the time. Eventually she just permanently filled in the blank and left this note on her refrigerator,

"It's not the unschooling, it's life."

Life happens even if kids are in school (or sitting down daily for formal school at home), and so do monthly hormonal changes (especially if you're of the female persuasion ;-). I tend to flow through the month feeling more positive and energetic during certain parts, and more tired and negative during others.

Go figure ;-).

My kids will get the gift of time (given the amount of time I spent in school trying to learn things I've manged to forget again over the years, I don't think they are missing out on much not being there), thanks again to [livejournal.com profile] catnip13 for reminding me of that at least.
