So H wandered in to tell me she wanted to experiment with cooking again.
After discussing some ingredients we have handy in the house she decided upon making something with bananas.
She ended up with a very simple recipe:
H's Cinnamon Bananas
1 banana - sliced*.
1/4 teaspoon cinnamon.
Stir cinnamon and banana slices together.
Fry over medium heat in olive oil for a few minutes.
And the domino effect took hold:
C's floury Scrambled Eggs
2 eggs.
2 TBS sugar.
2 TBS + 6 teaspoons self-rising flour (he kept adding, and adding - use whatever measurement conversion you prefer).
Milk (I'm not sure how much he put in, but it ended up very soupy).
Heat olive oil in pan, and cook on medium, stirring to scramble.
And finally:
S's Apple Candy
1 apple cut into chunks.
2 TBS + 1 teaspoon sugar.
3/4 teaspoon self-rising flour.
1/4 teaspoon cinnamon.
Fry in butter over medium heat for five or six minutes. (She also tried baking half the batch, but decided frying tasted better).
S's and H's concoctions turned out surprisingly well; I liked them both and I don't usually like cooked fruit. C's reminded me of a scrambled, sugary German pancake. The girls loved it, but it was a little too sweet for me. The kids came up with all of these recipes on their own, I just hung out and washed dishes, and offered advice on the best way to cook each one.
*That reminds me of a discussion I had with M, way before we had kids, about starting them off learning to handle a knife by letting them slice up a banana with a butter knife. At first he thought it was a ridiculous idea, since it sounded contrived to him as he couldn't conceive of any reason someone would want to slice a banana. Snerk.
