Riding Junior with Mosquito Interference.
Aug. 23rd, 2012 06:11 pmIt's been raining a lot lately. Last night, around four am, I woke to a downpour. The weather has been cooler, but stickier. The mosquitoes are too damn abundant.
H got Junior ready to ride today. She caught him, brushed him, picked his hooves, and bridled him herself. She gave up riding fairly quickly, however, due to the aforementioned mosquitoes. They kept landing on her and Junior. She kept trying to swat them while riding, and nearly lost her balance at one point. She decided to try on another day, when the mosquitoes weren't quite as bad.
Since Junior was all set to go, and H was done so soon, I decided to take a turn. After enough trotting to nearly turn my out of shape legs to jello I got Junior to canter. Then I got him to canter several more times - after the first time he seemed to give up fighting me and go along a lot easier and faster. He has a very choppy trot, but a very nice canter.
