Graupel and Karate.
Feb. 23rd, 2013 01:19 pmApparently the other day C and I got caught out driving during a graupel storm. I thought it was hail or slush at first, and it was very hard to drive in it. It was dark and visibility was very poor. C told me to pull over since it was so hard to see. Good thing I was already planning to stop and grab some pizzas for dinner. We waited out the worst of the storm while waiting for our order. Too bad I didn't have a camera handy, since there was no storm at home and I would have loved to show the girls everything blanketed in white.
The graupel storm happened while I was taking C home from karate (beginning kenpo). The Sensei is ready for him to move up to the advanced class, but C is not sure he's ready. At first when the Sensei mentioned it to him, C thought the Sensei meant move up into the older kids class with a different instructor. C did not want that - which is a good thing seeing as he isn't old enough for that class anyway. The current plan is to wait till after testing next week, and then move to the later time slot.
After getting the pizza, on the drive home, we saw one of those electronic freeway signs (the ones that can be programed with any message so they can warn you about traffic, or accidents, or street sweepers you never end up seeing, or just be annoying and tell you to drive safely). It read "Warning, winter driving conditions." As I told my husband when we got home - Global warming my frozen ass.
