Father's Day
Jun. 16th, 2013 12:47 pmWe don't really do anything for Father's Day around here. When H was a baby I got a cute little card that was written as if a little kid had made it. I painted H's hand and made a handprint in the card like she was signing it that way. I really think Father's and Mother's Day can be exciting and fun for the new Fathers and Mothers.
For a few years we made a tradition of getting icecream on Father's and Mother's Day (and donuts on our Anniversary). We let the donuts tradition slide first - it wasn't exactly the recipe to inspire healthy living. A few years ago the icecream tradition went by the wayside.
The highly advertised, "hallmark" holidays tend to wear on me after a while.
Something noteworthy for today - I reminded the kids about Father's Day (though, H had figured it out already from the slew of ads running lately), but told them they were under no obligation to do anything for their Dad. H asked to go to the dollar store before Father's Day. We made it yesterday. H got M a snickers (the default recommended gift for Dad, when I'm asked), wrapped it and labelled it. It's waiting on our kitchen table so she can give him a Father's day gift anyway. I think it's sweet that she wants to give him a gift, because she wants to, not because she feels like she has to.
