Recipies for Thanksgiving.
Nov. 21st, 2018 01:59 pmS and I are planning to do most of our baking this afternoon/evening. H has to work at 3pm (apparently the eve of Thanksgiving is a pizza holiday), so will have no time to help. C and M will go out to dinner with Opa and Oma; every year they come out, Opa wants to eat at one of our local German Restaurants.
The real challenge for S and me this year was trying to remember which recipe to use from which book. As it turns out, some of our recipes are split between more than one book.
First off, the cranberry sauce. It is something we cobbled together from the backs of several cranberry bags combined with trial and error.
12 oz cranberries.
1 cup sugar.
.5 cup orange juice.
.5 cup water.
Dissolve sugar in water and orange juice by boiling for 5 mins.
Add sorted and rinsed berries.
Cook, stirring, for 10 mins, then reduce heat and sim w/o stirring for 5 mins.
The Pumpkin pie, Key Lime pie: Joy of Cooking.
Orange Meringue pie, Meringue, Crusts: Our burnt cookbook (Betty Crocker's Cookbook, 1969).
