Last Saturday evening, M and S went on the great trek to find a Christmas tree. It took looking at three stores, then sadly returning to the first, to have even a modicum of success. In other words, slim pickings this year.

It has been established, that M and I must wait till all the children are grown and gone, before we can give into the impulse to get a fake Christmas tree and be done with the hassle and cost of buying a real one every year. Of course, if we ever really do that, it will likely just stay up all year round gathering dust.

Traditions are interesting things. For example, M's family never put lights on their tree. That explains why I'm the one who puts them up on our tree every year, since I remember that being my Dad's job when I was a kid. C told me he's glad we do my tradition, and I'm sure some day he'll be putting the lights up on his own Christmas trees.

In the meantime, we have at least 6 more years of listening to my old Christmas records while decorating a real tree with unique, sometimes horribly ugly, ormnaments collected over two generations.

I always love how our trees turn out.
