It's all a matter of timing.
Mar. 24th, 2014 02:15 pmWe've been trying to get to our local Ren Faire before the season ends. As it is we have one more weekend left before having to say, "Oh, well, there is always next year."
Last Friday, S finally helped me have a break through on why C had been dragging his feet about wanting to go (I had been assuming his perpetual cold this winter was behind his reticence, but apparently it wasn't). We have garb, and C was really bothered that he wouldn't have a change of pants or shirt. Once I told him it would be fine if he wanted to go in street clothes (and I could carry several changes of clothes for him in a period appropriate satchel M made for me several years ago - back in our diaper carrying days, I believe) he told me he would be disappointed if the girls and I went without him. He also told me he wasn't feeling too sick to go, and that he would like to start in the garb, and change pieces to street clothes as he felt the need to switch into cleaner clothes.
Phew, one obstacle surmounted.
Why didn't we just go yesterday, then?
H and I were tired from our 9am kenpo/jujitsu class on Saturday and from the shopping trip to Good Will for one of it's half off sales days. Plus we had gone to Walmart (S wanted to pony shop and H didn't want to be at home for several hours with her brother, so she tagged along). If we were going to go Sunday to Faire, I would have had to push off my feed store trip till Monday (doable), and clean out the truck, and go grocery shopping, and get all the tiny details arranged to have us up and ready to go early enough in the morning. Plus I had tweaked my neck in the karate class Saturday morning when the Sensei was showing me a technique.
My overwhelmed meter started going off really loudly.
Since kenpo/jujitsu was going to be cancelled next weekend, leaving two days when we would have a chance to go (allowing for flood day to eat up one of those days if it ends up on the weekend), I voted to put off Faire till next weekend. H, tired from the aforementioned activities, agreed with me. M didn't much care either way, and C was still feeling poorly enough that he was happy to push things off a week. That left S to be disappointed, but she did agree that going on Saturday, and having a day to rest from the 5 or 6 hours of walking around, before going to her own karate on Monday would be nice.
S looked about ready to cry this morning, though, when I told her that H had come down with a new cold.
Timing. Maybe we should have gone yesterday when we had the chance. I told S, worst case scenario, she and Daddy go next weekend alone. I'm hoping H will be recovered enough by then to go, though, so we can all go together. We'll see.
ETA: While watching Castle with me and M in the evening, S told me she thought she was getting sick, too.
