Happy Birthday S.

S.

Thanks to M, we have a fancy double layer round cake. H decorated it, and since S is sick, she gets a frosting mound covered in candles to blow out.

Hi, I hope you don't mind me friending you. I've been looking for someone on here who cares for ducks. I raised a goose a few months ago that hatched with splayed legs. Within a day I got him standing and kept him for 4 months he was a lovely little (big) pet.

Today I was asked to take on a duckling (my first) she/he has a very bad limp. About a week and half old. Been fine since hatching until yesterday. I'm thinking maybe a sprain and just some rest and Tlc will fix it up. But if you have any tips it would be a great help as id hate to loose such a sweet little thing. Xx

Friending me is fine :)

As for the duckling, I'd make sure when you have him on the ground, that it's not a slick surface, like tile or laminate. We always put down sheets or towels, the slick surfaces can give them trouble with their legs. He'll need a heatlamp to choose to use or not to keep his temperature regulated (especially since he doesn't have other ducklings to cuddle with). You'll want lots of drinking water access, just like your goose, and 24 hour access to unmedicated feed (so either a flock raiser, or unmedicated chick starter). Also, ducks can choke if they have food, but no water, so if you have to pull water access for some reason, also pull food. Ducklings are omnivores, so they will eat the bugs too, unlike your goose.

He looked really good in your pictures, so you're probably right about him just twisting the leg. He'll probably be just fine, but you can check backyardchickens (they should have a duck section) if you get worried.

Thank you, her/his owner kitted me out with everything I need it's just he didn't really tell me how to help it and he's soooo hard to get in touch with lol. I've only let it walk on my carpet atm for half hour tonight and it's just starting to touch the floor with its bad leg so yeah I'm still thinking sprain.

I didn't know they could choke without water! Tho I would never leave any animal without water anyway so that shouldn't be a problem.

Xx
