The other day I was going to go buy chicken food. To make the trip more enticing to the kids I reminded them we could look at the puffball chicks the feed store was likely to have in stock. H wanted to know if we could buy some chicks.
We currently have four laying hens. As it turns out, four layers are plenty for this stage of our family's appetite. Yesterday I was washing and writing the date on eggs and stowing them in the fridge. Once finished I counted the fresh eggs and all told we had four dozen and two.
Wow, we had better increase our egg intake or start giving them away.
We do have M's parents coming in for four days over Thanksgiving weekend, so we'll have to see where the egg count is after that.
BTW, we did not end up buying any new chicks.
