Dead Chicken.
Nov. 18th, 2018 09:48 amWe lost another bird to a daytime predator yesterday. We've lost two chickens and one duck in the past three months. The first chicken may not be the same predator as the other two, since there was very little left of her when we found her.
Yesterday we lost S's chicken Shiny. We're pretty sure we're dealing with a hawk, especially given how her neck was picked clean.
We buried her nearish S's rooster. We'll probably put in a bougainvillea for her. I wasn't in the right headspace to bury the bits left of H's Kogura a few months back, but we'll plant a lantana near Shiny for her today.
We're contemplating a new enclosure before we get more chickens. I'll miss having chickens in with the horses, but I could certainly do with a few fewer burials in my life.
In the meantime, our one remaining chicken, C's Flop, is going to be spending a lot of her time in the duck house.
