My favorite form of caffeine
Mar. 17th, 2009 10:39 pmWhen I was pregnant with H, I accidentally got off of caffeine. I was slowly lowering my intake to be healthier for my growing baby and, as a result, I managed it without any withdrawal symptoms. It was a surprise when one day I realized I didn't need any green tea (which I was drinking instead of coffee by then). I was about eight months pregnant at the time.
Had I planned to get off of caffeine, I wouldn't have been able to do it so slowly. I wouldn't have had the patience to do it any other way than cold turkey (with all the resultant withdrawal headaches).
Once off, without headaches, I wasn't in a hurry to get back on. I figured it was inevitable, however, with a new baby (then with my second, then third), but my children have all been very good at being nocturnal and I've gotten enough morning sleep to muddle by, caffeine free.
A few weeks ago, with our sleep patterns getting a little more erratic, I started in with coffee again. The discovery I made that has truly been my downfall: Swiss Miss hot chocolate added to my coffee. Add some milk, and instant (and very inexpensive) cafe mocha. MMMMMMMM.
It tastes good enough, I like having the excuse to be drinking coffee again.
