I was in Girl Scouts for one year when I was a kid.

I still remember two lessons I learned from that experience.

1)How not to cook french toast. The girl who was assigned as my partner to cook our breakfast on my first, and last, Girl Scouts camping trip, would not leave well enough alone. She kept flipping the poor pieces of toast, and breakfast wasn't very good.

It took several years of ruining french toast for my family, before I finally recovered from that incident and could make a reasonably edible piece of french toast.

2)My Scout leader used to say something along the lines of "If you haven't gotten dirty, you haven't had fun." I think I can now extend that philosophy to my household consisting of three children - if the house isn't messy, they haven't had fun.

Yesterday I swept up most of the floor near our kitchen table, and with H's and S's help I cleared off the table and put down a new table cloth. We then broke out the new package of Wiki Sticks, which included some paper butterflies and fish.

Now the table is covered with paper butterflies and Wiki Stick creations, and the floor is liberally strewn with bits of cut up fish and butterflies (The girls decorated some of the paper animals and C cut the rest of them into little bits - to each his own ;-).
