One Person's Weeds is Another Person's Flowers

We used to have grass, with some weeds here and there. Now we have weeds, with some grass here and there.

M is tempted to tear the whole thing up and put down rock, as a way to get rid of and prevent future weeds (not going to happen, mind you - I don't like rocks as landscaping, and I know the weeds would still manage to come back.).

S loves the weeds, she likes how their flowers look.

A weed is any plant growing where you don't want it. Any plant can be weed, depending on where it's growing. Even if you (or someone else) deliberately planted it there years ago, if you don't want it there now, it's a weed, IMO. We have a lot of "weeds" in the decorative rock in front of our house, but we let them grow because we like how the Queen Anne's Lace and Salsify look.

Decorative rock is also a thermal mass that heats up to very hot in the summer sun, and doesn't cool off for a long time.
