Last Saturday we got the place cleaned up for a house filk. Three people showed up (well five counting their kids - my girls had a very good time with those two). We never seem to have good turnout at our filks. I'm going to assume it's because we're so far out there, not because people are deathly afraid of my lasagna ;-). C would have been just as happy if no one had shown up, since he told me several time that night that he doesn't like having guests.

We burned three piles of orange tree branches the night of the filk, and made much fire and ash. H learned the hard way that ash from the night before can still be hot enough to burn if you walk through it in your bare feet. She got a burn on her big toe, but it felt better by the next day.

H tested for her youth red belt last night and got it.

The goslings are getting much bigger. They are living in the big cage now, and do pretty well by themselves at night. They get bored easily, though, so when they notice people up they get very loud asking to be let out. They follow fairly well, so we can take them on walks in the backyard.

We might be looking at an old thoroughbred on Thursday that someone is offering to just give us. He's a little skinny, so may take some extra care to bring back to peak condition. I already want him based on the pictures she sent me (big surprise there ;-), but I'm waiting to see if the kids click with him, before taking on the challenge of an older hard keeper.
