If anyone out there has delusions about how peaceful and gentle animals are (you know compared to us brutal and violent humans), they need to spend five minutes watching our geese interact with my four year old.

Wobbles is the more dominant of the two and every few days he decides he's big and strong enough to establish dominance over the smaller members of the flock (C and S mostly). We try to encourage C and S to yell, act big and kick Wobbles if necessary when he gets like this, but seeing as he is about the same height as C (especially when he has his neck fully extended), sometimes C just runs away instead. Unfortunately, today this led to C getting two very big marks on his back where Wobbles landed a few bites.

C found me after the encounter and I helped him out by spraying Wobbles whenever he tried to attack C, and kicking him a few times when he wouldn't respect the water (trust me, geese are tough buggers, this did no long term damage and for the rest of the time out there he steered clear of C - and besides, if the choice is between my kid and some goose with delusions of grandeur, guess who'll win out in my book).

Yes geese are cute little cuddly fluff balls when they are little. But then they grow up. The animal world is not some peaceful harmonious place ruined by humans - without any help from us those animals are, well, animals.

Marty Sunshine, who grew up with geese, has always refered to them as "damn geese." Sounds fitting.

In honor of the very fitting name your Marty Sunshine gives to geese, I'm going to add a tag for the geese to all posts about them - "damn geese".
