Farrier Day

crazychicknladyThe problem with farriers, is just because they set a scheduled time, and you are expected to be ready - horse cleaned and tied up waiting - at the expected time, it doesn't mean they will arrive on time. Okay, I know there are farriers out there with a better time sense than mine, but I've read enough stories to know that there are plenty out there as bad or worse than mine.
My Morning:
6:40AM Crawled out of bed to get horse ready for 7:30AM farrier appointment (This included letting him graze a little, shooing him off the porch several times, and cleaning the mud out of his feet from all the rain we've had lately. I also caged the geese to keep them away from the farrier).
7:50AM Called farrier to politely inquire as to whether he's going to make it. Farrier answered and swears he's on his way and will be there in half an hour.
7:52AM Let Ezra loose to graze some more.
8:15AM Got Ezra tied up again and cleaned back up. Then the girls cleaned him extra, brushing him and combing his mane and tail, since it turned out we had plenty of extra time to kill.
8:50AM Called the farrier again and left a message on his voice mail mentioning my major cross streets in case he'd forgotten and was lost.
9:15AM Farrier finally arrived - he swears he passed three wrecks on his way here - when he was done he promised to call in two hours to set up our next appointment (yep, you guessed it, no call from him yet).
9:30AM-10:30AM Rode horse (stayed on through bucking fit) and gave H and S rides (C slept through all of this, but the girls got up at 7am to hang out with me and enjoy the morning).
It can be hard to get a farrier to come out for just one horse, so even with his aversion to making it on time to appointments, I am keeping this one for the time being. Though if he never does get back to me about scheduling the next appointment, I may have to move on anyway.
