I know I'm coming late to the party, but I got all 7 seasons of Buffy The Vampire Slayer from Amazon for $70.99 a little while back (I didn't want to wait another three months for Hulu to put on the the next season, and 10 bucks and season is hard to beat).
I just finished season 5. Now, I haven't seen season six nor seven yet, but my impression after seeing the last episode of season 5 is that it should have ended there. It was a very Joss Whedon sort of ending and it felt right.
I get that the show was popular at the time, and for most people a Joss Whedon ending wouldn't sit well anyway, so I get why they made more. And I may change my mind when I see season six and seven and decide they were very necessary, too. Heck the musical episode alone (which I saw when it aired originally) probably makes season six worth it.
Plus, I never like to see a good story end, and having to move on without knowing more of the story of the people I've grown to care about. But it could have ended there, and I would have been satisfied. Joss Whedon tells an excellent story and I grew to really care about the characters in this show. I must admit I cried a lot during season 5 and I don't cry over a story unless I've been wholly sucked into it.
