Horse Ride Yesterday.
Dec. 8th, 2010 01:46 amEzra was a very good horse yesterday. I saddled him up and left the halter on when I bridled him. I let H mount up, then took them into the horse/damn geese/chicken yard, and let H direct him with the reins while I reinforced her commands with the lead rope (and held on tight, just in case he decided to bolt or pull anything on H, but he was an angel). S got a turn too, and on the second round for each I took off the lead rope (it seemed to be confusing him, more than helping, anyway) and walked near his head.
The whole time I was prepared to stop him if he decided to go faster than a walk. He never tried it. He was calm and stayed at a walk through two rides each for the girls, and an extra long pony ride for C.
I took a few small rides in between the kids' to let Ezra speed up a bit and to break up the routine a little (I can just tell after a while that he gets really bored going soooo slow). He picked up a trot and canter with me, no problem, even though for the kids he kept it at a walk.
After the kids were all done I took Ezra into the main yard, and he let loose. He even started to gallop before I pulled him back down a bit. We then spent twenty minutes or so trotting, cantering and walking in nice large circles.
What impressed me the most is how much he wanted to run when I got on him at the end, thus how much he was keeping himself in check with the kiddos on board.
