Yesterday we went to the old house and I finished cleaning some of the inside. I wanted to weed the roses, but I ran out of time because I needed to get to the feed store, before it closed, to pick up some dog food (none of the feed stores near our current house carry the brand we use). Then the kids and I went to the park that still has a merry-go-round and a small dome climber.

We got to the park a little before sunset, and stayed way later than I planned, because rather than being deserted (thus creepy to be there after dark by ourselves), as I'm used to it being, it was packed. A very nice young lady showed the kids how to hit a volleyball, and played with them till it was time for her to eat. We then played a short game of monkey keeper - called on account of there being no good place for the monkey keeper to hide, and H wanted to ride the merry-go-round instead. The kids ended the night by riding their scooters around the basketball courts.

Today I took the kids to the zoo. We had to park in overflow parking (maybe choosing a Sunday to go to the zoo was not the best decision on my part), and had a very nice meandering 1/4 mile trek, including three bridges, to the real parking lot and then into the zoo. The kids took one turn each at the Polar Slide (last day before they pack it up), then we looked at some animals after buying some snow cones and cotton candy. We got to the zoo later than I planned, since there were several extra tasks to accomplish at home before we left. As a result, the kids had to choose between going on the merry-go-round (the kind with animals) and petting the stingrays, or walking around looking at more animals.

Guess what won out?

After petting (S and H got to feed them) the stingrays, we bought some clearance T-shirts, because I forgot to bring spares. Then the kids went on the merry-go-round five times before we rushed back to the store so they could shop a little before the zoo closed. Everyone ended up with paper fans and some rock candy, and S and C bought some cool snake bracelets. Next time we go we're going to get there earlier, so maybe we can see a few more animals. At least we got to look at the ducks on the way out.
