New trucks and old.
Apr. 21st, 2011 12:33 pmLast Thursday we got our new truck.
Our old one committed suicide on our way home from the Grandparent visit last week by throwing a wheel - yes an entire wheel went rolling down the road in front of us after falling off while we were going about 65mph. No one was hurt, we got slowed down and parked at the side of the road with surprisingly little difficulty. Some nice truckers stopped and retrieved the wheel for me.
I was going to post about it here, but LJ was having some serious issues last week due to DDOS attacks, so I ended up having to put a short account of the hazards of our trip on Facebook instead. We also managed to have two flats on our way to the Grandparent visit, so all in all it was an interesting trip.
The new truck is a 2003, since we always let someone else take the depreciation hit. I would have preferred to get the 2006 we tried to buy, but the manager was aiming to rip us off, so we had to walk. The great thing about the truck we ended up with, though, is it's cloth seats - a feature surprisingly hard to find in the variety of truck we were looking at. Nice to not have leather seats to stick to as the temperatures creep ever higher and higher around these parts.
I'm still a little twitchy about odd sounds and bumps as I drive the new truck.
H often asks if our wheel fell off if we hit a rough patch of road.
Our new truck does have a DVD player - sweet. So next trip might go a lot smoother, assuming the new truck doesn't decide to give us any trouble. And given that the way out took twice as long as expected, and the way back took three times as long, the kids were superstars even without movies to watch.
