Really? Now?
Jul. 15th, 2011 03:20 pmI have fed 30 or 40 goose eggs to the dogs.
Speedy has layed at least 20 more since then (next year we're eating most of the bloody things ourselves).
For the past two days she has been spending a lot of time on her nest - including looking very hot and uncomfortable sitting in the sun today, rather than the shade, due to the unfortunate positioning of her nest (I gave her an extra bucket of water nearby so she could drink without getting up).
Given the clumsy goose behavior I observed in the new kiddie pool we got them last week, there is a very remote possibility a couple of those eggs overflowing her nest are actually fertilized.
I may candle some next week to see.
I'm not expecting anything out of all of this, but it is interesting to finally see Speedy acting the part of a broody goose.
