Our New Weekly Activity.
Feb. 19th, 2012 10:45 amAt the Metzer Farm Website (the folks we ordered our ducks from), they've set up a live duck-egg hatching video cam. They turn on the cameras each weekend for a new batch of ducklings. Last week was Rouens, this week is Blue Swedish (the list with dates is on their page below the cam image and a neat explanation of how the babies behave to get through the shells and get themselves hatched.
The video quality isn't very good, but the babies are still very cute, and it's exciting to watch the progress (though sometimes it's more a hurry up and wait experience). The main problem is, while they turn the camera on on Saturday, most of the viewable hatching progress is made very early Monday morning (midnight - 4am).
Since night owl is in our blood, we get to see some hatching before bed, and even though they turn the camera off Monday morning, the last image (generally full of fluffy baby ducks) is still on my computer when we get up.
