We went to the County Fair yesterday. I'm pretty sure I was a teenager the last time I went to the equivalent of a County Fair. It wasn't too busy, and M and I managed to steer the kids away from the games. There were a wide variety of rides, and we got the kids unlimited ride wristbands - because it didn't make financial sense any other way at a 3 ticket minimum for even the littlest kid rides.

I definitely suffered from sticker shock - at the price of the rides, wristbands, fair food and drinks. The kids had lots of fun, though, and they did their level best to get our moneys worth out of those wristbands. C may have gone on this one giant slide 30 times. The girls went on scarier, faster rides than I would have wanted to try. It was nice to have kids tall enough to go on just about everything they wanted to without needing an adult to accompany them.

We checked out the fair entries before we hit the rides. H got a white ribbon for each of her photos. S got a blue ribbon for one of hers and no ribbons for the rest - they'll get feedback when they get their photos back, but part of her problem may have been fuzzy pictures. Plus, the girls had effectively zero guidance on what the fair judges were looking for in their photo compositions, so she may have missed some major elements. They'll be better prepared next year, since we'll have the feedback sheets to work from.

C got a participation ribbon. One of their friends from the shooting sports group got a blue ribbon for his pig. When looking for that friend's pig I realized how small our 4-H group was compared to other groups - and I always thought we were big.

The fair was open till midnight, but we pumpkined around 11pm.
