For the past two nights, Rat Boy, a.k.a. Snow has been sitting in the nesting box right alongside Goldie Feather.

Last night we used a flashlight to check on the goose egg being warmed by the chickens. There were lines along one side, so it's looking like the geese may be successfully breeding after all, and the chickens are keeping that growing baby alive.

Since the chickens were crammed into one of the two nesting boxes, both trying to sit one egg, we snagged another Speedy egg - one freshly lain that morning - and stuck it in the other box.

This morning Goldie Feather had moved over and we had one chicken on each egg. Unfortunately, due to my poor planning - heck no planning whatsoever - if those two eggs actually hatch, they will be about 5 days apart.

ETA: I went to check on the chickens, in the hopes of getting a photo of them in their respective nesting boxes, figuring they would be done running around having a quick lunch and be back on the eggs. They were back in the boxes, but crammed into the same one again. I may not have to worry about two separate goslings hatching after all, but we'll see how things progress from here. They may yet split forces in the coming days. Also it'll take a whole month to hatch a gosling, so all this may still fall apart if the hens lose interest.
