Lost the Second.
Jun. 28th, 2012 11:37 amThis time the baby didn't even get a chance to pip internally. Probably because I tried to interfere. It was over 110 yesterday, so I took the egg inside and set it up in the bathroom under a lamp. We made sure to shower in there to increase humidity. I figured the baby would do better than boiling under the chicken.
Apparently not so much.

Maybe we made it too humid. Maybe I fried it with too much heat from the lamp. Maybe it got too cold overnight. I need a more accurate thermometer (and a way to check humidity) if I do this inside stuff again.
For the time being I took two of the freshest looking goose eggs left and tucked them under the chickens. One in each box. If Ratboy and Jumpy flake, I'll stick both eggs under Nutsy Rose. I don't know how long the chickens will sit, since they've already been at this for a month. I really don't want to have to do the inside stuff again, since I obviously suck at it.
My current plan is to let the chickens sit for 28 days, then bring the eggs inside once the babies have internally pipped in case they need help getting through the shell. But then again, the best laid plans....
We'll see.
