Chickens, Ducks, and Geese, oh my.

crazychicknladySo now we have six chickens (that's all of them, BTW) roosting at night, so no more broody chickens. Seeing as there are no more fertilized eggs to sit, I consider this to be a good development.
This morning Speedy the female goose, looking as pleased as she could be, was sitting on the duck eggs. This new behavior convinced the ducks to give up on that particular pair of eggs, and they all happily met me at the gate to be let out in the main yard. Speedy was trying so hard to be a good mom to those unfertilized eggs, tucking old hay around her to keep them safe. I let her keep them for an extra hour or two, but finally collected them.
The ducks enjoyed the massive summer showers we had this afternoon. The chickens, on the other had, were so confused by the entire process that they went in to roost at 4pm.
