Long walk

I went trick-or-treating with the kids last night. M stayed home to hand out candy (as it happens, we were our only trick-or-treaters this year - *worst turnout ever*). We're at the end of a dead end street, so it's understandable that some kids don't want to traipse that far, but this is the first year we got no one at all.

I think there was a very low turn out in our neighborhood in general this year - judging by the number of people who gave the kids hand fulls of candy rather than just one or two pieces. We only saw six or seven other kids out there while we were out. In this neighborhood there used to be at least twenty or thirty kids going around trick-or-treating on Hallowen. Too many people have moved away - fewer kids live around here now.

The kids got *lots* of candy - so many folks seemed relieved to have any trick-or-treaters at all. Mind you, the girls earned their candy. We walked over a mile (took us about 2 hours). The best street had maybe 1 house out of 5 giving out candy. One street had only two houses total, out of 30 houses, giving out candy.

So says my 6.75 yr old daughter. I think she has hit upon one of life's truths :)

(when I read this post to her, H wanted me to add that while chocolate is really yummy, it's not good for you.)

(Of course, we're talking about milk chocolate in large quantities, not very small amounts of dark chocolate ;-)
