This afternoon some kids knocked on our door and the eldest (girl 8) said, "My Grandpa's died, he's out in the car." My brain promptly got very confused. The old man was unconscious, but breathing, and he was sitting in his car in the road in front of our house. (Our house is hard to get to and out of the way, so why the old man had managed to be there when he passed out further confused me.)

Luckily M was home, today being Presidents Day, and he had the presence of mind to tell me to call 911.

Turns out the man was diabetic and had let his blood sugar get too low. The paramedics fixed him up, I made him a peanut butter and jelly sandwich and got him a cup of lemonade (good thing I'd just made some the night before).

After M was done giving the fire department all the relevant information (911 operator transfered us to them after I gave her the situation), and told him he could hang up, the little girl called her Mom.

Turns out they used to live in the area, so that better explains why the old man ended up at our house.

Our kids put up very well with the unexpected invasion of their house by an eight year old girl, a four year old boy and a one year old girl. Cuddos to the eight year old for doing such a good job with taking care of her siblings in this unexpected emergency situation.

The parents made it here with no trouble and everyone headed on their way. Our front road is again empty, and it's as if the whole thing never happened.

Weird way to spend a chunk of our afternoon.
