Chicken eggs
Feb. 22nd, 2010 03:02 pmNow that it's warming up a bit, more of our hens have started laying. For the last month or so they had probably been averaging two eggs a week. I've ended up buying grocery store eggs many times this winter (that's one of the reasons I got our new babies - I figured our older hens may just be past their egg laying days). The other day after not checking the eggs for two or three days (it had been raining a lot and I wasn't in the habit of finding eggs anyway) I found five brown eggs.
Sweet.
Even better, today there was a greenish blue egg next to a brown (for those who don't recall, three of our hens are brown egg layers and one lays greenish blue eggs - the babies will all be brown egg layers). That means Daisy the americana is laying again :). So, at least three of our hens are back to laying. Still sporadically, and we're still eating more than the supply, but this is much improvement over my two eggs a week.
