S - I'd have an easier time understanding people on the game (Wizard101) if I could read what they say. Sometimes H reads stuff for me.

Me - Okay.

S - I want to learn to read.

Me - Want help practicing?

S - Yes!

Me - Okay, lets find a book.

Look around on the bookshelves, find a collection of Dick and Jane my Mother gave me because they were from the years when my Father learned to read.

48 pages later..... (with only a little bit of help)

S - It's a little repetitive, which makes it tedious.

Me - Maybe we can work through a different book, then.

S - Okay, but later.

S ran out the door to go help Daddy build the new playhouse. She has to get his lag screws set up after all.

(Let's take stock: my middle child is motivated to work on her reading because of a mmorpg, and she knows what a lag screw is - cool.)

ETA: Later that evening, I was about to shoo the girls off to bed, when I realized they were sitting on the couch together with a copy of Go, Dog. Go! open between them. S was working her way through the book, and H was reading the words S couldn't figure out.
