Trick Or Treat So Others Can Eat.
Oct. 25th, 2011 02:39 amThe cloverbuds did a pretty good job collecting canned goods last night for the Trick Or Treat So Others Can Eat that our 4-H organized. Their cans weighed in at a total of 149lbs. - and this was after only about 40 minutes walking around a neighborhood of acre sized lots (though we did split into two groups). It helped that the leader was organized enough to have her teenage son put up fliers on the doors of all the houses we planned to visit to explain what was going on and when, so several houses had bags of cans ready and waiting for us.
In our group we had one parent following along in a car to help carry the food. One stayed near the street to make sure the kids stayed along the curb as they charged along to each subsequent house. I was the parent who walked with them to the door, though I hung back about twenty feet to give the kids room to do their stuff.
One girl had done this before and had the spiel down pat. An older sister came along and helped pull the wagon - she also gave me some tips on good places to trick-or-treat for candy come Halloween.
All the kids were so cute. They got so excited when they knew someone was coming to the door. There was many a quiet little "yes!" with fist pumping.
We ended the night back at the park for some cookies and juice and the weigh in. There were so many cookies, C and I were able to bring back some to share with Daddy and the girls.
