Halloween Jack-o-lanterns.
Nov. 14th, 2011 01:12 pmThis year H(10) did almost everything - cutting off the head, scooping out the guts (with a very small amount of help from me), sorting for seeds and carving the faces. She wanted a happy looking pumpkin, so gave it heart eyes. Then she added a leaf on the back while S was working on putting a flower on her pumpkin.

S(9) cut off the head, and tried to get the seeds out herself, but her energy levels were still fairly low, since she managed to get sick a few days before Halloween. I helped scrape out seeds and sort, but she stuck with it even after I told her I'd do it all for her if she wanted. I helped carve the flower, following her instructions. She added the leaf on the stem by herself.

C(5) wielded his knife as carefully as the girls, but with less strength and patience his aim needed a little help. He chopped off the head, but quickly lost interest after that, so I did the scooping and sorting. C wanted a scary face this year. H suggested the scars to round out the effect.
