So I went out this morning to let the ducks out of the bird yard so they could have their morning swim. They expect me each day and greet me with happy quacks. They line up at the gate and follow each other single file as they rush towards the gazebo and the closest potential kiddie pool.

It was cold last night so I hadn't refilled the turtle water (turtle shaped sandbox we'd turned into a pool), so after poking around it for a few seconds the ducks moved on towards the kids' yard where we have two regular kiddie pools.

I followed the ducks to the kids' yard, and as I went to dump the old water from last night (a little iced over I noted) I noticed a large pile of feathers next to one of the pools. Hmmm... someone must have caught a bird yesterday.

The ducks went after the feathers like it was a wondrous feast. This wasn't a complete surprise given the song bird incident from a couple months back.

Then I noticed Feather Head (C's Fawn and White Runner Duck for those keeping score) over by the slide with something red in her bill. My first thought was balloon, since S and C had been playing with balloons over there the other day and while they tried to clean up, sometimes a piece or two will be overlooked. I approached her and got a better look at the red thing when she dropped it. It was larger than I thought, so I started thinking old piece of wax left over from our candle burning days.

That was till I touched it.

EEEWWWWWW.

Internal organ salvaged from that pile of feathers. I tossed their treat back to the ducks and they took turns chasing each other around trying to eat it. They kept dropping it then trying again, because it was just slightly too large for their cute little bloodthirsty bills to handle.
