I tried letting Junior out on the grass again, and he rubbed off most of the peaches on the peach tree near the fence - unfortunately one of only two peach trees that had any fruit this year.

He has some scabs on the backs of his legs, and I think I'll have to keep him penned up until those heal and stop itching him. I don't know what caused the cuts in the first place, but our best theory is bug bites that he scratched so vigorously he rubbed them raw.

This just means a higher hay bill this summer, and a hungrier Junior - he tends to eat through his flake in a matter of minutes and then has nothing left till his second flake in the evening. I've been trying to stretch out his meals by giving him smaller portions of his flakes doled out throughout the day.

The thing is, Junior would love to be out on the grass, and Ezra would love to be in the pen with hay. That would cost us 3 times as much hay, though. So Ezra gets to stay out on the grass throughout the day. Junior may be in all summer, besides the occasional hand-grazing, and chance to mow the front yard and kid's yard for us.
