We've been playing a lot of chess around here lately (I keep having to remind C that it is called chess not chest).
I mentioned the kids' new interest to my Mom, and she said Grandpa might play with the kids, but he doesn't like to let anyone win (she tells him to let the other grandkids win). I told her my kids would not want Grandpa to let them win. They want to learn how to play chess well, and they know they'll learn faster if they play against someone who plays a good game against them (I'm not that good at chess, so I'm sure the kids could learn a lot more from Grandpa).
I mentioned this conversation to the kiddos and they agreed with me that they would not want Grandpa to let them win. I think C (only 6 years old, mind you) summed it up best, though, when he said, "If I found out that Grandpa was letting me win, I would hate it."
