C is nearly done with his current karate classes. He will age out soon, and by the end of the month he'll be testing for his youth black belt.

I've been very impressed with his maturity in class since he started back up in June. He strives to be calm and respectful. He is annoyed by the kids when they fool around in class, but he has worked to leave the corralling of the kids to the Sensei, and to instead, just act as a good example.

C has a tendency to pick up on new techniques quickly, but in addition to that he is very good at explaining those same new techniques to the other children when the Sensei pairs the kids off and asks them to work together.

The above friend, K, has often needed extra help from C - when he first started back, her Dad told her to watch C since he was the highest belt in the class. C took that responsibility very seriously, and has been trying to help her out ever since.

After they learned their first stick move, C didn't get a chance to work with K during class, so asked if he could work with her after. C very patiently talked her through the move - pointing out gently and consistently that she needed to keep hold of her own stick the whole time. The sweetest part was when he thanked her for working with him when she was ready to leave.

Yesterday, after class, he worked on their second stick move with K (see the pic above - taken with my very first scrollie phone), demonstrating the same level of patience. I think C would make a very good assistant for his Sensei, in a few years.
