I expect there is a cultural divide, that seems to be getting wider. I'm on one end and the whole fucking county is on the other (not true, I know, but there are a lot of them out there, to be sure, who will take the horrific events of today as a new reason to scream about the evils of guns). There are people out there who equate wanting to get rid of Gun Free Zones in schools as wanting to arm all the five year olds.

It's like they can't see past 20 years ago. It used to be, in some towns, that the beginning of dove season meant there would be a whole lot of guns on campus and not a single rampage was the result.

The US cities with the strongest gun control laws have the highest crime rates.

Gun free zones don't magically protect people. People bent on homicide don't change their minds because they aren't supposed to have a gun in a gun free zone. There is no magic to make the bad guys guns inoperable as they cross the border into a gun free zone.

20 years ago, those young dove hunters weren't shooting it out with each other just because their schools weren't gun free zones.

In the name of "well if it saves just one life..." were loosing a hell of a lot more of them than we're saving.

Guns don't kill people, assholes in gun free zones kill people.

I want to tell you that your intelligent, carefully thought out position on gun issues is a big part of the reason that I am able to see what I posted on Facebook today: We all want to protect our kids, despite differences in opinion in the best way to do it. You are a credit to your position. When I talk about people that I respect on the pro-gun side of the divide, that's usually you and M.
