For those of you out there worried that if you let your children watch as much TV as they want that TV is all they will want to do, here is some anecdotal evidence to the contrary.

S is playing in her room. We recently cleaned it so it is a pleasant place to play. She is playing a game by herself involving dinosaurs.

A few minutes ago I realized the Sunday Simpsons is on. I knocked on S's door and told her Simpsons is on. She said "Simpsons!" in an excited way then paused and said, "No Thanks." S is still happily playing in her room and the TV is off.

I would like to point out that your children are in no way indicative of your average garden variety mundane children. Fannish children, in my experience, are a lot more immune to the hypnotic effect of mindless TV than children raised by mundane parents. I have often pondered this and come to the totally subjective conclusion that mundane children need TV less because they have very rich intellectual and fantasy lives. We raise them to be that way, if you stop and think about it. I raised Eli to never be a spectator in her own life, and to live fully as opposed to watching other people live and you have done the same with your children. IQ could also be a factor, because when nerds mate, we tend to create intellectually superior children capable of weighing the Simpson's against a game of dinosaurs and deciding the dinosaurs are more interesting. Just my totally biased opinion. *giggle*
