YouTube Channel

C has been spending a lot of time over the past few months watching YouTube channels made by gamers. He watches a lot of Minecraft and Gary'sMod, as well as other games if they are covered by his favorite YouTube personalities. He has a handful of channels he watches regularly.

This has inspired him to make his own gaming movies. Last week he asked me to look into how to let him post gaming movies on YouTube.

Well, I did. And with M's help (and about 4 hours of my time yesterday tweaking with things) we figured out a way for him to make low quality Screen Casts of him playing minecraft.

I made a YouTube channel for all the kids to use. Thesunandmoon3, named after their mincraft character The_Sun_and_Moon, but without the underscores, which YouTube didn't like and with 3 at the end since thesunandmoon was taken, and the 3 kids will have a chance to use the channel

So far I put up a video H made of herself a long while back - Cosette singing Castle on a Cloud as a sock puppet. Otherwise the rest of the channel is currently dedicated to minecraft 1.6.2.

C is having a blast making videos. He makes them faster than I can upload them. His videos probably aren't that good, but he throws in techniques he's picked up from watching other people's videos. I think he's really cute doing them, but I'm his Mom, and cute for Mom doesn't necessarily translate into fun viewing for others. I thought of a parallel last night. H is very good at drawing now. But she probably killed a few trees with the amount of paper she went through while drawing in the past three or four years to get to where she is now. So this is the beginning stages for C, and there is no reason that with lots of practice and more experience he wont be really good at this Screen Cast stuff in a few years.

In the meantime he really wants viewers, so if you play minecraft, or know a kid that does, check out some of his stuff. Parts are actually funny, and it's very family friendly.

K has a friend who is C's age that is an obsessed Minecraft fanatic. (K plays a little, but prefers to peruse the videos and games on PBS kids most of the time) I bet he'd be interested in C's pursuits. L's mom has been talking about setting up a private web server so that he can play with other kids. Bet he and C could have fun doing that.

C would probably love to play on that server. We play sometimes on a server my brother is an admin on. It's player versus player in the survival world, so we usually steer clear of most of the other players. Once though, when C died mysteriously and I was trying to get him back to his stuff before the clear lag function got it, someone helped him out a ton. They picked up his stuff so it wouldn't disappear, then gave it back to him. Later C saw the same guy again and gave him a cookie, and they guy ate it. C's way of making friends with everyone, even an adult on a multiplayer server who had no idea he is just 7.
