Karate Updates

C passed his junior black belt test last month, thus ending his time in his first Sensei's class. He started up with his new Sensei on Tuesday. H and I started up with the same Sensei (he was also the one we had for about 4 months at a different location last year) in the 13+ class right after C's.

C was very happy to get his black belt, but at first felt sad since he wouldn't have a class to wear it in. As it turns out, his new Sensei lets new students wear their highest belt from a previous karate (since, as he says, they earned it) until they earn a belt in his class. C was over the moon with this pronouncement.

I am pleased to be doing karate again, but am finding I am sore in muscles I forgot I had.

Today S has a tournament. She will be competing in all 4 areas - forms, weapons, sparring, and sword. She is in the highest level (red, brown, black) belt grouping now, so starts at 1pm.

Second in sword, but only placed in everything else. In weapons and forms, where they are scored, she placed last. In sparring she was eliminated after just one round - I don't think they handled the six competitors in a decent way for elimination purposes, but it's hard to deal with six.

She had fun though - funny kid.
