Christmas Cookies
Nov. 13th, 2008 11:02 pmWhen I was a kid we used to make a certain kind of sugar cookie where we stamped out shapes with cookie cutters and decorated them with sprinkles. We only made this type of cookie in December and as a result we called them Christmas cookies.
Even though we've made these stamped out sugar cookies around here at other times besides December, I still call them Christmas cookies. My sister knows exactly what I'm talking about if I say we made Christmas cookies, even in the height of summer. I still use the recipe my Mom used, except I use butter instead of margarine.
This evening we made Christmas cookies, for the first time in several months. H helped me make the dough, and C insisted I share several bites of cookie dough with him while waiting for the dough to chill. Then the real fun began :) Three kids, cookie dough, flour, rolling pins, cookie cutters, and lots of sprinkles.
I am always amazed at S's creativity when making cookies. She doesn't just carefully stamp out the dough and decorate them, she creates groups of cookies to make a larger picture.

This is Santa riding his sleigh pulled by a reindeer. S has made this sort of cookie before, but this time she made sure to give Santa a bag for toys. H added a tree for him to fly over.

Another S creation: These are a Daddy star holding Momma star's hand, a kid star and a baby.

The rest of us made cookies, too.
