It took ten years for the pain to fade enough for me to venture into a roller skating establishment again. It was nearly as loud as I remembered from the Girl Scout event H participated in when she was 8. Within 10 minutes of being at this teen group shindig with S and C, I was informing the kids I was ready to leave whenever they were. No sunk cost falacy was going to keep me in that hell hole any longer than absolutely necessary.

We ended up staying an hour. S decided the inline skates I had sprung the extra dollar for were too easy, so she down graded to the four wheel type. Once she felt sufficiently skilled at those, and had a couple of really rough falls, she was done. C also downgraded to four wheels and was much worse at skating than S, but in his normal friendly way ended up getting skating pointers from an older lady who really knew her stuff. He would have stayed longer if we'd let him.

The general conclusion was all of us prefer ice skating. S never needs to go back, but C wants another go if our teen group does this again. I would prefer to never set foot in one of those places again, but I've agreed to take C back at least once. I am, however, likely to bring earplugs if that happens.
