There are very few rules enforced with our cats (they are cats after all): stay off the kitchen table, the puzzle table, and the kitchen counters, don't scratch the carpet or human beds, and the humans won't open the outside doors for you to leave the house after dark.
There are quite a few routines, however, that have cropped up over the years.
Newkie's morning routine starts with being let into my room by the first available conscious human she encounters past dawn. Prior to that she is happily curled up on one of her many sleeping options strewn about the rest of the house. Once inside, she goes straight to her favorite water, the old yellow plastic cup by my sink, to have a drink (yes, there are other water options accessible to her during the night). She will then either settle down on her toilet paper tower, or cuddle with M. At some point in the morning, she will notice me in the bathroom. This will lead to her sitting expectantly by her water cup waiting for me to add water. Even if the water is barely an eighth of an inch below the lip, it is imperative for me to top it off before she can have her second drink of the day.
