I know someone who loves gaming. Some of our best conversations have been about games. He has introduced me to many fun games, by telling me about some, playing some with me, and giving me some of his old ones.

Unfortunately, he seems to have internalized his spouse's world view that gaming is a waste of time. This saddens me. I was talking to him once and I was going on about how much fun we have with our Wii and Gamecube (especially since Gamecube games run on the Wii). He told me he can't get a game system because he would be addicted to playing on it.

Ouch.

I lamely responded, that he could play with his daughter (she's five). He said maybe when she's older.

Ummm... I guess he's never met my three year old son. He very competently and joyfully plays several different fairly complicated video games. We got the Wi when he was just over two, and he could play with those controllers just fine. Since then we've gotten a used Gamecube and many games and he can manage both styles of controllers very well within the context of many different games.

So here is my public service warning to any unattached game loving readers who stumble across my livejournal at some point - if you are looking for a person to spend the rest of your life with, find someone who values gaming. Don't set yourself up to have such an integral part of your life undervalued by the one person who is supposed to love and understand you the best.

I heartily agree with this. I am reminded of the New Testament injunction, "Do not be yoked together with unbelievers." 2Cor6:14.
